To
thee, O blessed Joseph, do we come in our tribulation, and having implored the
help of thy most holy Spouse, we confidently invoke thy patronage also.
Through
that charity which bound thee to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God and through
the paternal love with which thou embraced the Child Jesus, we humbly beg thee
to graciously regard the inheritance which Jesus Christ has purchased by his
Blood, and with thy power and strength to aid us in our necessities.
O
most watchful Guardian of the Holy Family, defend the chosen children of Jesus
Christ; O most loving father, ward off from us every contagion of error and
corrupting influence; O our most mighty protector, be propitious to us and from
heaven assist us in our struggle with the power of darkness; and, as once thou
rescued the Child Jesus from deadly peril, so now protect God's Holy Church
from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity; shield, too, each one of
us by thy constant protection, so that, supported by thy example and thy aid,
we may be able to live piously, to die holy, and to obtain eternal happiness in
heaven. + Amen.
✠ LATIN ✠
AD
te beate Ioseph, in tribulatione nostra confugimus, atque, implorato Sponsae
tuae sanctissimae auxilio, patrocinium quoque tuum fidenter exposcimus. Per
eam, quaesumus quae te cum immaculata Virgine Dei Genetrice coniunxit,
caritatem, perque paternum, quo Puerum Iesum amplexus es, amorem, supplices
deprecamur, ut ad hereditatem, quam Iesus Christus acquisivit Sanguine suo,
benignus respicias, ac necessitatibus nostris tua virtute et ope succurras.
Tuere,
o Custos providentissime divinae Familiae, Iesu Christi subolem electam;
prohibe a nobis, amantissime Pater, omnem errorum ac corruptelarum luem;
caelis beatitudinem assequi possimus. Amen.
Earlier today I posted my new presentation for the “To Thee O Blessed Joseph” prayer given to us by Pope Leo XIII in 1889. I am not sure why I felt compelled to make the presentation for this particular prayer, as there are other St. Joseph prayers I wish to make presentations for. But something – or someone – told me to go ahead with this one.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of his Encyclical “Quamquam Pluries”, Pope Leo exhorts the faithful to add this prayer, “To Thee O Blessed Joseph”, to the conclusion of the recitation of the Rosary for the entire month of October (month of the Rosary). He does not recommend this solely for the year 1889 but to “be repeated EVERY year”! Through the decades this practice was dropped and forgotten by most of the faithful – even the clergy.
Earlier this evening I went to check my mailbox and in it I found an unexpected surprise. I received a Catholic newsletter from Malta (I can’t read Maltese) with an image of none other than Pope Leo XIII praying to St. Joseph – on the front cover! To me this is confirmation of my resolve to pray Pope Leo’s prayer at the end of every Rosary! I feel it’s high time we not only bring back this practice for the October, but pray this all year round! Every Rosary we pray should be concluded with the “Hail Holy Queen”, “St. Michael Prayer”, and “To Thee O Blessed Joseph”. To me this “coincidence” is too big to ignore. I hope you will all join me in praying “To Thee O Blessed Joseph” at the conclusion of every Rosary we pray – I believe that it is God’s will to do so.
This little experience has moved me to get prayer cards printed with this beautiful prayer so that I may send them to those who follow this Apostolate. This will require money, so anyone willing to help out, please message me privately. I’m so excited by this, I can’t wait to get these cards made! God is good!

Excerpt from Pope Leo XIII’s “Quamquam Pluries” (1889):
6 We prescribe that during the whole month of October, at the recitation of the Rosary, for which We have already legislated, a prayer to St. Joseph be added (To Thee O Blessed Joseph), the formula of which will be sent with this letter, and that this custom should be repeated every year.
